Why Are Politicians so Shameless?

I am thinking of Ambika Soni having some fun at L. K. Advani's expense by wondering that she thought that he was retired. I am wondering who is Ambika's boss??? Who does she answer to? Who is the superboss of everyone in her party including as it happens the babbling, mumbling prime minister of India? It is a sad fact of Indian politics that someone like Deve Gowda has been a prime minister. It's also sad that at various times other politicians including Mulayam Yadav , Laloo Yadav , Mayawati , Chandrababu Naidu , and many others have been possible prime ministerial candidates. L. K. Advani's suitability to be prime minister may be open to debate. But surely, no one has less locus standi to be the prime minister than Sonia Gandhi. I wonder how these people can sleep well at night. After all, one can lie all one wants to the world at large but you can't lie to yourself.

Some Days are Interesting ... and others are not

What a smorgasboard of news items ... One has to marvel at the way politicians like Lalu and Mulayam survive in spite of umpteen scams. One can add to the list of course. I mentioned these two in the context of something that has been said by the BJP chief which these two 'gentlemen' found 'insulting.' What a joke — I am least bothered. But, the audacity of the shamelessness of politicians and the short tenure of the memory of the public is mind boggling. Well, strange to see Jairam Ramesh suddenly taking a liking to the Chinese and getting into a mess. Even the United States is wary of China ... so, it might be better to take a cautious approach with the dragon so that we are not caught with our pants down. Strange stuff, of course. A very strange nation — China. What does it do to a nation to have been defeated in war like China was by Japan. So much suffering. The Japanese have done such horrific stuff like experimenting on live humans, etc. — basically, not much dif...

Faux Austerity

Or, should this be called "pseudo austerity?" Congressmen are basically like a flock of sheep who like to move in a herd and have a deeply ingrained "follow the leader" mentality. So, we are seeing the sudden emergence of all these various austerity measures being adopted by the ministers. Let me clarify that I am not one of those who like to villify politicians for all tha ails this country. It's certainly not the politicians' fault that this nation boasts a population of 1.2 billion — well, except, may be a few 'exceptional' ones such as Laloo Yadav. But, on the whole, as someone had said, "we deserve the politicians we have." We should not forget that after all we are the ones who have voted these folks to power. The "standard" of our politicians is merely a reflection of our standards as voters. Be that as it may, the pious proclamations and demostrations of various austerity measures are of course pretentious. But, I guess, ...
