Is Life Beautiful

When people are ‘lucky’, they tend to reflect on their good luck and tend to thank providence profusely for it and reach conclusions such as “Life is Beautiful.” I always wonder if life is indeed beautiful – and, even more pertinently, how valid an argument it is to reach that conclusion when one happens to get “lucky” by chance. I recall numerous instances of people who survive natural disasters thanking the Lord for letting them live while others died. Without citing any particular incident, let us just think for a moment how fair that is – to thank God for letting you live. How about the others who died? Were they at fault somehow and deserved to die? The recent serial blasts in Jaipur killed many people. Did the good Lord decide that these people were unworthy of living and so deserved to die and so the terrorists were in fact agents of God. Delhi Earthquake

Earthquake in Delhi. I think a mild tremor shook Gurgaon about 10/15 minutes back. I am not even sure if it was a figment of my imagination ... we'll see tomorrow I guess. Sure, nobody came rushing out of their homes in the middle of the night. I guess everyone is fast asleep on a Friday night after a tiring week. It's only weird me who is still not quite dead and so felt the very slight tremors in my chair in my fourth floor apartment. Am I hallucinating? Or, a canary in the mine.

Armageddon

What I fear most of all - being a resident of the National Capital Territory - is an earthquake. I just had a strange feeling of something 'quaking' underneath me and being a resident in a multistoried building, my first thought was whether there was an earthquake ... A killer earthquake can really devastate Delhi ... with millions of fatalities. I don't think people are adequately conscious of that possibility. However, the only silver lining is that Delhi has been around for thousands of years without any Great Earthquake hitting it. Although that is no guarantee that a major earthquake won't hit Delhi in the near future, the likelihood is perhaps not too great. Certainly, we are probably in a better position than Tokyo ... one certainly has to hope so!!!
