On A Dinner Table

No. It's not about THAT. Nothing HAPPENED on the dinner table. In fact, I don't have one. And that's the point. It occurred to me out of the blue about the fact that I do not own a dinner table while most people do. (Of course, when one talks of India, probably it would be truer to say that most people in fact don't.) But clearly the readers of this blog would likely belong to the dinner table owning class. So, the point is this: how essential is it to own a dinner table? Does one's quality of life degrade in any noticeable manner (let alone significant manner) on account of not owning a dinner table?  Clearly, the stark fact has to do with our sense of priorities.  We make these choices and so many of them. Some of these choices are conscious and some are unconscious. There are individual choices made and societal ones too. Individuals choose to worry over dresses or dining tables or door frames or dogs or whatever.

So Which Language Do You Cry In?

Researchers have come up with definitive findings that babies cry differently depending on their mother tongue!!! And I thought all babies cry the same way ... The logic behind this, according to the scientists who spent hours listening to French and German babies crying, is that babies listen to their moms' voices while in the womb and the baby brains are smart enough to adjust themselves accordingly so that when the time comes, the babies will be able to learn their mother tongue rather efficiently. The human brain certainly is one heck of a smart device!!!

The Amazing Never Ending Baby Boom

That's how I would describe the phenomenal capacity of Indians to have babies. I wonder if Indians are just stupid or there is more to it than meets the eye ... something like that saying ... "the meek shall inherit the Earth." I think there are ways in which India's strength in numbers might her well. But, mostly I think India's burgeoning population is India's biggest problem rather than its biggest strength. Fast breeding nations of the third world such as India and China are plaining helping bring the standard of living down for the whole world. The key to world prosperity and the progress of human civilization lies not in being a leadeing breeder ... because then we would need to compete with other animals and they might in fact beat us hands down. The decisive advantage humans enjoy is not even brute, muscle strength which other species possess in far more abundance than us. What provides humans our unique survival advantage is our brain power and that h...

Interesting times

Here are some random occurrences that together make for an interesting tapestry/collage. Abramovich has fitted his yatch with fancy laser devices that will disable digital cameras ... this to protect himself from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. People are committing suicides just because some politician died ... this in apna AP. Or, are they??? Some ladies are using breast enhancement techniques ... but, that's old-fashioned now. So, some who want to be at the vanguard — Pam Anders, Vic Becks — are starting an opposing trend ... that of breast reduction. I say, cheers to that!!! I don't know why though ... I just have one thought. Will Indian ladies follow their Western counterparts as usual??? But then, since things tend to happen in India with a certain time lag, will Indian ladies first go for breast enhancement in the years to come or will they skip that part and go straight for breast reduction??? Interesting possibilities indeed. Talking about contradictions, there...
